We will officially be kicking off Winter 2011/12 this FRIDAY NOVEMBER 25th!!  This weekend will see the first of two Preview Weekends with limited terrain, rentals, retail and food & beverage options available out of the Main Mountain Village.

The mountain will be open Friday November 25th thru Sunday November 27th and then Friday December 2nd - Sunday December 4th.  We will be ramping down midweek during this time to focus on mountain preparation, snow making and readying additional terrain, then plan to be open for full operation, 7 days a week starting Friday December 9th, 2011.

We look forward to opening Chair 6 and the top of the mountain as soon as weather and snow permit.

Preview Weekend I - Nov 25th - 27th.

Chair 5 will be operating from 9am - 4pm providing access to Race Course.
Adult lift tickets will be available for $29, reduced child, junior & senior passes also available.
All Kirkwood 2011/12 Passes will be accepted PLUS all valid 2011/12 Passes from ANY OTHER RESORT!

So I've also  heard a rumor that you can make this deal even sweeter by shopping at  costco.  You can purchase 3 ($100) gift cards for $80 each and apply  those toward you season pass purchase.  So if that holds true, you'd end  up paying $240 for a season pass! As of 4-28-11 folks were still using costco cards to buy their passes, so there are still some out there.  But I'd advise a call to your local costco to make sure they have them in stock.  Once you have your costco cards, go here to  purchase your network pass (using your new gift cards instead of a credit card):

Below is a list of the possible upgrades to your network pass and their respective prices:

1) Spring Pass - $69. You can ride the rest of the season (about one month to go) for 69 bucks. that's less than a day pass.
2) Mtn. Bike Pass - $59. Mtn bike this summer at kirkwood.
3) Ski Green - $10. Proceeds go to "supporting kirkwood's mission to transform its energy system."
4) Skier Guard Insurance - $18. If you can't use your pass for more than 30 days due to "unforeseen circumstances" kirkwood will reimburse you for the unused portion if you purchase this insurance.
5) X-country - $59. Adds x-country to your pass so you can use the vast x-country grounds at kirkwood all season.

It's looking like kirkwood is putting the network deal together as we speak. It should be launched sometime in the next couple of days and it's looking like a huge price reduction from last year! thanks recession. preliminarily they're saying $299 for an unlimited pass through april 25th.

with opening day around the corner and the deadline for pass purchase on the horizon, i just wanted to review a few of the basics and benefits of the kirkwood network pass program:

1) network passes are available for purchase through December 15th for $429;
2) these passes have no black out days; you can ski/ride any day kirkwood is open in the 09/10 season; including xmas, new years, mlk and presidents day.
3) your pass comes with a free early season adult day lift ticket valid through 12/25/09.
4) you get discounts on day passes for your friends throughout the season; $12/off midweek, $8/off weekends;
5) you also get lodging and apparel discounts; (10% off);
6) the pass is not valid at durango, but you do get discounts on lift tickets at jackson hole and taos (50% off);
7) no, you don't have to prove any association with the epa;

"A very nice looking storm with heavy rain and snow is moving into extreme northwest northern California this morning, and is projected to hit Tahoe through Mammoth with moderate to heavy snow this afternoon through tonight. Most snow falls this evening for the northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. We have 20+ to 50 knot cross mountain winds for good orographics, deep moisture, colder air moving in, and strong upper level dynamics to help squeeze every flake of snow possible from this storm. The only missing ingredient appears to be time, but with a short window of opportunity we still expect a solid foot of snow in many places. Snow showers develop mainly this afternoon, and heavier this evening, light and ending tonight/ Saturday morning. Winds look strong with blowing and drifting snow expected. Much colder temperatures are expected."

the forecast is looking promising... kirkwood has told me they plan on ramping up their snowmaking so that they can open thanksgiving weekend....

understandably so. Here is what the pricing structure will look like after that deadline.

- price will go up to $399
- if you buy in a group of 4 (ie. "quad"), you can still get the $379 deal. You can use 4 separate credit cards, but you have to be a group of 4 all purchasing at once. not 3, 5, 6, 11, 17 or any non-multiple of 4. kinda lame, but i don't make the rules.

so if you want to avoid the hassle of organizing yourselves in squares... and/or you want to save $20, then i encourage you to make the purchase before april 30th.

The $399 single/$379 quad price will be good until september 8th. then prices will jump again, to, as of now, unknown levels.

Q. why is this pass cheaper than kirkwood sales?
A. kirkwood gives us a discount for being part of a "network" group. This program used to be part of the corporate sales deal, but has morphed into a network group discount. I organize the group, give out the login and password, and you get the cheaper pass.

Q. do you get paid?
A. no. but if the group sales are large enough, i get certain perks at the resort.

Q. does kirkwood send me my pass in the mail?
A. you have to download, sign and fax/send back the liability release first. If you don't have a picture on file, you also need to send them a pic. Q. can i get the skier guard insurance?
A. yup. it's an option when you're going through the checkout process.

Discounted Season Passes to Kirkwood for 08/09

$399

This season I'm organizing a group purchase deal for kirkwood season passes. These are for unlimited (ie. no black out days) passes. The passes are not advertised publicly but are open to everybody, so long as you contact me for the instructions and password.

In exchange for that extra step, you get a huge discount on the purchase price. $399 = ski/ride any day this coming season. Kirkwood is currently charging $529 for the exact same pass.

as an added incentive, here are a few things kirkwood is doing better this year:

2) Parks. New terrain park focus for the 08/09 season. Kirkwood has hired a new park designer for the upcoming season to revamp the park scene, with new features and better layouts. Kirkwood 's upper management has made the park scene a focal point when planning and budgeting for the upcoming season.
3) Crazy pros mad huckin'. The Extremes are back! The North American Free Skiing Championship will return once again this year, the scheduled dates are March 16-22. The event will once again take place on Lookout Vista (utilizing the new lift!) and the Cirque.
4) Cheap Gas. Kirkwood Carpool Forum is going to be upgraded for the upcoming season, making it even easier than before to share a ride up to the mountain.

Q. What's the difference between this pass and a 7Wood pass from kirkwood?
A. Honestly not much aside from $$$. the perks are pretty much the same. and most importantly, you can RIDE ANY DAY OF THE SEASON. period. For 2011/2012 the only tangible difference in benefits between the two passes are some added discounts at china peak.

Q. What if I already purchased a 7wood pass (or any other pass from kirkwood)? Can I still get the discount?
A. Yes. Just call Kirkwood's season pass office at 209.258.7277. Tell them you'd like to switch from the 7wood to the network pass using EPA's network login. They will switch you over and credit you the $50.

Kirkwood has a group discount deal for their Unlimited Season Passes. I'm a group organizer and I post updates and purchasing info for the deal so you can save your $$$s for beer.

The network passes are unlimited passes. You can ski/ride any day of the season, no blackouts or weekend limitations. They also come with discounts on buddy passes, lodging and retail. They generally track Kirkwood's unlimited or 7wood passes, they are just cheaper because you're getting a group discount. While the name of my group is "epa," you don't have to show any affiliation with EPA to purchase this pass.

All sales of season passes go through Kirkwood's secure server where you pay with a credit card. To access the discounted prices, you need the website, group name and password shown below:

The website, group name and password don't change. What changes is the price. For the 2011/2012 season, the first price increase will be on May 1st. I post updates on this site, reminding folks of the deadlines.
